Towards a Holistic, Total Engineering Cost Model

چکیده
In this paper, we explore a new approach for a unified and interdisciplinary parametric model for estimating the total engineering effort in developing and delivering a software-intensive complex system. We begin by reviewing some of the limitations of using existing engineering discipline-focused tools for estimating total engineering cost and by articulating the benefits of such a holistic model. Applying a two step method combining heuristic analysis and data validation, we propose three hypotheses to expand the basic cost estimating relationship of COSYSMO, a systems engineering model, to the total engineering scope by including software size drivers. The implementation of the hypotheses and the validation approach are also discussed. We conclude the discussion by outlining the future work required to realize such a model and to apply it to supporting successful system development endeavours.

A Node-based Mathematical Model towards the Location Routing Problem with Intermediate Replenishment Facilities under Capacity Constraint
In this paper, we study the location routing problem with replenishment facilities (LRPRF), an extension of the location routing problem (LRP) where the vehicles can replenish at some replenishment facilities. Vehicles leave the depot with load on-board, serve customers until out of load, and then either return to a replenishment facility to reload or return to the depot, completing their route...
متن کاملTechnical Note: Performance measurement in industrial organizations, case study: Zarbal Complex
Industrial organizations are complex systems` where the interactions among the various functions such as Sales, Distribution, Manufacturing, Materials, Finance, Human Resources and Maintenance have to be man-aged towards a common purpose of delivering the customers satisfaction. However, since most of these or-ganizations have a `Functional Structure`, each function or department works towards ...
متن کاملDefect Cost Analysis
The defect cost analysis investigates the various contributions of conflicting quality objectives towards the total cost, using a probabilistic approach estimating the total effect of defects on product quality cost. Two cost drivers occur in every design, material cost and processing cost. The additional cost due to defect parts is usually seen only as one cost driver, however, it can be broke...
متن کاملKnowledge maturing as a process model for describing software reuse
Software reuse has become a major topic in software engineering since reusing artifacts has an important effect on the cost and quality of software products. Accordingly, understanding and managing the mechanisms of software reuse is important for every organization that develops software. In this paper we describe a knowledge maturing process in software engineering and use it to analyze two c...
متن کاملAn inventory model for deteriorating items with time-dependent demand and time-varying holding cost under partial backlogging
In this paper, we considered a deterministic inventory model with time-dependent demand and time-varying holding cost where deterioration is time proportional. The model considered here allows for shortages, and the demand is partially backlogged. The model is solved analytically by minimizing the total inventory cost. The result is illustrated with numerical example for the model. The model ca...
